About Me
My name is Thessie Lonia Mitchell. I was born and raised in a small community
(Spring Field) two miles outside the city limits of Windsor, N.C. This is a
rural southern town where farming was a way of life and strict segregation was
practiced in the 1950’s and 60’s. Similar to the majority of the kids in my
community, I grew up in a home without a father living in the household. This is
the atmosphere that I grew up in and it impacted greatly on decisions that were
made later in life. Upon completion of high school, I moved to Durham, N.C.
where I attended and graduated from North Carolina Central University with a
degree in Criminal Justice. The majority of my career was spent working as a
police officer with the Duke University Police Department. Later on in life, an
unfortunate traffic accident rendered me a quadriplegic. This unfortunate
incident gave my life a new direction and brought me to a closer walk with God.
I became inspired to tell the world my testimony. This spawned a new career
that resulted in my writing this, my first book. Inspiration to carry on with my
life has been greatly enhanced by the tremendous family support that I have
received. My parents, children and many friends have given me the inspiration to
continue to live and be a productive citizen in spite of my current condition.
My faith in God continues to carry me through.
